We recently moved and as I was getting settled in my new and improved office (with a door!), I began to notice intermittent power losses coming from my USB hub.

I got under the desk and started investigating what the cause may be.

The first thing that caught my eye was how dated my surge protector looked.

It was faded and kind of yellowing around the edges.

It was ugly.

It was old.

It got me thinking, “how long have I had this thing?”

Did you know that surge protectors don’t last forever? Most of them have a lifespan of three to five years. Keeping them any longer than that is a hazard!

Take a close look at your power surge and if you’re not sure if it’s time to get a new one, DM me!

And it’s not just your power surge – what I see all the time with my clients is that one older component to your set up (modem, DVD player, cheapo charger) can short circuit your newer set up.
